Celebrating the Romance, Beauty
& Fascination of Heritage Roses
A Passion For Old Roses & Their Alluring History
Heritage Roses in Australia Inc. began with an informal structure of people who were fascinated with old roses that had survived in the gardens of our early settlers or brought to Australia by enterprising nurserymen from the UK, France or Europe to fill the gardens with memories of “home”. Some of these old roses we find today, growing in abandoned farms, cemeteries and roadsides.
The Perth Region is a branch of Heritage Roses in Australia Inc., a national organisation that is represented in New South Wales, Queensland, ACT, Victoria, Tasmania and WA with a National Executive that represents these states. You can visit our parent site HERE.
Heritage Roses Mesmerise With Simple & Timeless Elegance
In a world where hybridization and modern breeding techniques have given us a dazzling array of roses in every conceivable shape, size, and color, there is something truly enchanting about the old-fashioned roses of yesteryears. These timeless beauties, often referred to as heritage or heirloom roses, hold a special place in the hearts of rose enthusiasts and gardeners alike. But what makes us love them so dearly, and why is it crucial to preserve their provenance?
Old-fashioned roses evoke a sense of nostalgia and romance that few other flowers can match. Their delicate, intoxicating fragrance harks back to a bygone era when gardens were designed to be a sensory experience, captivating all who ventured into them. These roses boast an elegant simplicity, with their graceful, single or semi-double blossoms, often accompanied by lush green foliage and enchanting arching canes.
But it's not just their aesthetics that draw us in. Old-fashioned roses also possess a unique resilience and vigor, having thrived for generations without the pampering care that modern hybrids often require. Their hardiness is a testament to the time-tested strength of these ancient varieties.
We invite you to explore the website to find out more about Old Fashioned Roses, how to grow them, propagate them, and where you can see some of these beautiful heritage roses. And if you have a question, please EMAIL US and someone is sure to get back to you very soon.
